Our Mission

OUR MISSION

Contribute to reforming the health care system from the bottom up by applying a system's approach in an atmosphere of civility, open debate, tolerance and consensus, recognizing that we must accomplish our goals in an environment of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change.

Our organization draws upon over 80 years of health care experience from a variety of health systems in a number of rural and urban communities.

OUR HISTORY

In his book, De-Spamming Health – Reforming the Health System From the Bottom Up, Jim Felsen describes a letter he wrote to John Stossel after reading Stossel’s book, Give Me A Break. Stossel describes how central government programs, often rigid and fragmented, continue to expand rapidly, costing us a fortune. Many are ineffective or actually end up hurting those they are intended to help.  The letter asked Stossel how many of us are there that have reached similar conclusions, who are we and where are we. He did not receive a reply from Stossel.

                                                Jim Felsen, MD

THE CUBE - Our approach to local health system reform or "Health SUDOKU":

A successful health care system is comprised of integrated, interdependent, interrelated components determined through addressing a set of constant, essential standards or "rules" which help assure any community most effectively and efficiently responds to its unique population, economic, and social dimensions or "givens".  It is formulated much like solving a SUDOKU puzzle...read more.
